I did the Hampta Pass trek with The Trekkers Trail as a solo female traveler, and I can honestly say it was one of the best decisions I’ve made. From the very first call, the team made me feel comfortable, informed, and supported. Every little detail was taken care of – stay, food, safety, and pace.
The trek itself was stunning – changing landscapes every day, from forests to rivers to snow-covered passes. What made it special was the group vibe: chill, respectful, and fun. As a solo woman, I never felt unsafe or out of place. The trek leaders were professional, kind, and always had our backs.
Food was hot and homely, tents were clean and well-managed, and the views? Just wow.
If you're a woman thinking of doing your first high-altitude trek – go for it. You’re in good hands with Trekkers Trail.

Yes, the price is a bit high, but honestly, it’s worth it for the comfort, planning, and the overall experience. We explored beautiful places like Manali, Solang, Sissu, and Jispa — each spot was stunning, and we made so many great memories with our group.

Rising proudly at an altitude of 12,500 feet in the Garhwal Himalayas, the Kedarkantha Trek is one of the most rewarding and picturesque summit treks in India. Offering a perfect blend of scenic landscapes, adventurous trails, and cultural richness, this 5-day trek is ideal for beginners and seasoned trekkers alike. Traversing dense pine forests, alpine meadows, frozen lakes, and snow-laden trails, the journey culminates in a 360-degree panoramic view of some of the most majestic peaks in the Indian Himalayas.
Historical & Mythological Significance
The Kedarkantha region holds deep roots in Hindu mythology. According to local legends, Lord Shiva once meditated at the Kedarkantha summit, intending to establish Kedarnath here. But due to disturbances, he changed location, leaving behind traces of divine energy. The name “Kedarkantha” translates to “Throat of Lord Shiva.” A small shrine still stands at the summit, revered by locals and trekkers who reach the peak.
The nearby lake Juda Ka Talab also carries mythical stories. It’s believed that during Shiva’s meditation, a lock (juda) of his hair fell to the ground, creating this enchanting alpine lake.
Location & Accessibility
Kedarkantha lies within the Govind Pashu Vihar National Park in the Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand. The base village, Sankri, is approximately 198 kilometers from Dehradun and is the starting point of the trek. This picturesque village is surrounded by pine forests and snow-capped mountains, serving as a peaceful and scenic introduction to your adventure.
Major Highlights
Juda Ka Talab: A stunning high-altitude lake surrounded by dense pine forests. In winter, it transforms into a frozen spectacle and offers a magical camping experience.
Swargarohini Views: Catch breathtaking views of Swargarohini I, II, and III — the mythical peaks believed to be the path to heaven taken by the Pandavas.
360° Himalayan Panorama: From the summit, trekkers enjoy views of Gangotri, Yamunotri, Black Peak (Kalanag), Bandarpoonch, and Draupadi Ka Danda.
Scenic Forest Trails: The route passes through beautiful maple and oak forests, rich in biodiversity. You may spot Himalayan monals, barking deer, and langurs along the way.
Sunrise from the Summit: Perhaps the most unforgettable part of the trek, the sunrise from Kedarkantha Peak paints the snow with hues of orange and gold.
Star-Lit Camping Nights: Away from city lights, the sky comes alive with countless stars, offering a surreal night under the galaxy.
Trek Challenges
While considered beginner-friendly, the Kedarkantha Trek does pose some challenges:
Early summit push: Starting as early as 2:00 AM in below-freezing conditions
Snow trekking: Requires stamina and balance, especially in winter months
Altitude: Gaining over 6,000 ft in a few days, requiring acclimatization
Low temperatures: Nights can dip to -5°C or lower, especially from December to February
Adequate preparation, warm clothing, and hydration are key to a smooth experience.
Best Time to Visit
Winter (Dec–Mar): Peak season for snow trekking and spectacular winter landscapes
Spring (Mar–Apr): Melting snow, blooming rhododendrons, and clearer trails
Summer (May–Jun): Pleasant weather and fewer crowds
Post-Monsoon (Sep–Nov): Lush green landscapes, cool air, and crisp visibility
Avoid July–August due to the monsoon season and trail closures from landslides.
Why This Trek is a Must-Do

Perfect for solo travelers, groups, or first-timers looking for an introduction to Himalayan trekking
Cultural touchpoints in Sankri and along the trail add authenticity to the experience
